Early Entry
Early Entry Schemes – What are they?
Many universities understand the obstacles and disadvantages that our (rural and regional) students face; not only during their secondary schooling but also in their transition to University or TAFE.
To address this issue a number of institutions offer ‘early entry’ schemes as an incentive for our students.
Each scheme has set criteria; we supply here only a ‘snap shot’ of each, plus relevant links to further your research:
LaTrobe
SALT = Schools Access La Trobe
2011 Applications clos via VTAC (SEAS Category 6) 11 October- Students from selected schools can get into degree programs (at LaTrobe) based on their school’s recommendation. Applying for this scheme is via (normal application processes through) VTAC. You will print off a form, complete it, and hand it to the relevant person at your school (whoever assists you with University applications). Strict deadlines apply. You may receive a conditional offer in November/December prior to results coming out. For your research see: SALT
RRSAS = Rural and Regional Student Access Scheme
- This scheme encourages rural and regional students to study degree programs at rural campuses of LaTrobe. There is no action required to participate in this program other than to select a course at a regional campus. Eligible students will automatically have 3 points ENTER added to their score which means, if ‘close to the ball park’, this may bump them into their course. Research further at: RRSAS
Guaranteed Entry Scheme
- If you apply for a LaTrobe course and reach a pre-advertised ENTER (plus cover all other pre-requisites) you WILL get an offer for that course. To research further and see which courses are applicable see: GES
Charles Sturt
2011 Applications close 30 SeptemberPREP = Principal Recommendation Entry Program
- This scheme allows your Prinicpal (or senior staff member) to recommend you as “academically able” for a degree course at Charles Sturt. Not all courses are eligible and it is highly competitive. FIRST research PREP then track down the relevant paperwork from the appropriate person at your school.

University of New England – UNE – (Brisbane, Armidale, Sydney)
- Early Entry to UNE is based on the school’s recommendation of a student’s potential to acheive success at University, rather than final results. Offers are made in early December.
